Personal Loan Documents for Salaried People: The Complete List

A personal loan is one of the fastest loans to get, but only when your papers are ready. Most delays happen because one document is missing, old or unclear. This guide lists what lenders usually ask a salaried person for, and how to prepare each paper so your file moves quickly.

1. Proof of identity

  • PAN card – always needed. Your PAN is how the lender checks your credit report.
  • Aadhaar card – most lenders verify it online with an OTP sent to the mobile linked to Aadhaar. Make sure that mobile number is working.
  • Passport, voter ID or driving licence can be used as extra proof.

2. Proof of address

Aadhaar usually works as address proof too. If your current address is different from the one on Aadhaar, keep a recent electricity bill, rent agreement or a bank statement that shows the new address.

3. Proof of income

  • Salary slips of the last 3 months.
  • Bank statement of the account where your salary comes, usually for the last 3 to 6 months. The lender checks that salary arrives every month and looks at your existing EMIs.
  • Form 16 or ITR of the last year, if asked. Many lenders ask for it when the loan amount is high.

4. Proof of employment

Your office ID card, an appointment letter or an e-mail from your official e-mail ID is often enough. Some lenders call your HR or check your company on their own list.

5. Photographs and forms

One or two passport-size photos and the signed application form. With online applications, a selfie and an e-sign often replace these.

Tips that save days

  • Download your bank statement as a PDF from net banking. Do not send phone photos of paper statements.
  • Check that your name is spelt the same way on PAN, Aadhaar and the bank account.
  • Close or reduce small credit card dues before applying; they lower the amount you can get.
  • Use the EMI calculator to choose an EMI that is comfortable, usually not more than 40 to 50% of take-home salary including other EMIs.

What lenders look at besides papers

Documents prove who you are and what you earn. The decision also depends on your CIBIL score, your existing EMIs, the stability of your job and your employer. A clean repayment history matters more than a very high salary.

Summary

For a salaried personal loan keep ready: PAN, Aadhaar, address proof if different, 3 salary slips, 3 to 6 months of salary bank statement, and Form 16 if asked. With everything in order, many applications are decided within a few working days.

Questions people ask

Is a bank statement compulsory for a personal loan?

Almost always, yes. It shows that your salary is credited every month and what EMIs you already pay. Most lenders ask for the last 3 to 6 months.

Can I get a personal loan without salary slips?

Some lenders accept a bank statement showing regular salary credits plus Form 16 instead. It depends on the lender and your employer.

Do I need to give original documents?

No. Self-attested copies or online uploads are normal. Lenders verify PAN and Aadhaar online.
