Personal Loan on a ₹25,000 Salary: How Much Can You Get?

Many people earning around ₹25,000 a month ask the same question: will a lender give me a personal loan, and how much? The short answer is that many lenders do lend at this salary. The amount depends less on the salary itself and more on how much of it is already going into EMIs.

How lenders decide the amount

Most lenders look at your FOIR – fixed obligations to income ratio. In plain words: how much of your monthly take-home pay goes into EMIs. Many lenders are comfortable when all your EMIs together, including the new one, stay around 40 to 50% of take-home pay.

With ₹25,000 take-home and no other EMI, a lender allowing 45% would accept a total EMI of about ₹11,250. If you already pay a ₹4,000 phone or bike EMI, the room left for a new loan is only about ₹7,250.

Example: what an EMI buys

The loan amount an EMI supports depends on the interest rate the lender offers you and the number of months. As a rough guide, a longer term lowers the EMI but you pay more interest in total. Try your own numbers in the EMI calculator before you apply – enter the EMI you can afford and change the months to see the amount.

Things that help at this salary

  • A good CIBIL score. A score of around 750 or more usually gets better offers. Pay every EMI and card bill on time.
  • Salary in a bank account. Cash salary is hard for lenders to verify.
  • Job stability. At least 6 months to 1 year in the current job, and 1 to 2 years of total work, is commonly asked.
  • Fewer small loans. Many small "buy now, pay later" loans make lenders careful.
  • A co-applicant. Some lenders allow adding an earning family member to increase the amount.

Things to avoid

  • Applying to many lenders on the same day – each hard enquiry is recorded on your credit report.
  • Apps that ask for an advance fee before approval. A genuine lender deducts the processing fee from the loan, it never asks you to pay first.
  • Choosing the longest term just for the lowest EMI without checking the total interest.

Check before you apply

Use the eligibility calculator to see a realistic range for your salary and EMIs. Then apply once, through a platform that shows offers from more than one lender, instead of applying separately everywhere.

Questions people ask

What is the minimum salary for a personal loan?

It differs by lender and city. Many lenders start around ₹15,000 to ₹25,000 a month for salaried people, paid into a bank account.

Will my existing EMIs reduce the loan amount?

Yes. Lenders add up all your EMIs. The more you already pay, the smaller the new loan they can offer.

Can I get a personal loan with a ₹25,000 salary and a low CIBIL score?

It is harder and offers may be smaller or costlier. Improving your score for a few months first often gets a much better result.
